BOULDER HIGH SCHOOL
WINS Boulder High School took first-place honors, while Lawton, Okla.’s Eisenhower High School was runner-up at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City’s regional Fed Challenge competition on March 29, 2006. Boulder will advance to the national competition in Washington, D.C., facing other Federal Reserve District regional winners at the Federal Reserve Board of Governors. At the Fed Challenge competition, five-member student teams give a 15-minute presentation analyzing the economy and determining the stance of monetary policy, just as the Federal Reserve’s Open Market Committee does when it meets eight times a year. Teams then face a panel of judges for a question-and-answer session. Scores are based on an understanding of the Federal Reserve and monetary policy, research and analysis, teamwork, and presentation skills. Teams competing in the regional competition previously won preliminary events held at the Bank or one of its Branches in Denver, Oklahoma City or Omaha. Other schools competing in the regional competition were Lawrence Free State High School, Lawrence, Kan., and Millard North High School, Omaha, Neb.
The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City serves the Tenth Federal
Reserve District, which encompasses the western third of Missouri,
Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Wyoming, Colorado and the northern half
of New Mexico. As part of the nation’s central bank, the Bank
participates in setting national monetary policy, supervising and
regulating numerous commercial banks and bank holding companies, and
providing check processing and other services to depository
