Dec. 23, 1913 Federal Reserve Act signed by President Woodrow Wilson, creates the Federal Reserve.

Nov. 16, 1914 Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City opens for business on November 16, at the R.A. Long Building at 10th and Grand.

July 1918 Bank purchases land at 925 Grand Blvd.

May 1920 Construction begins on Bank headquarters.

Nov. 1921 Bank moves into its new $4.3 million dollar headquarters.
Building is 367,000 sq. ft.
Outside tenants begin renting space in the building in 1922.

1967 An on-site parking garage with 460 spaces, 56,200 sq. ft. of office space, security and freight docks is constructed along McGee St.

1969 Bank purchases lot north of the building for use as a messenger lot.

Early 1970s Bank stops leasing space in the building to outside tenants.

1976 Bank occupies an annex building at 915 Grand Blvd., providing an additional 28,300 sq. ft.

1979

A surface parking lot along McGee Street purchased for employee parking, adding 50 parking spaces.

1989 Bank begins leasing 200 to 325 parking spaces one block south of the Bank building for employee use.

2000 Bank relocates 175 personnel to 42,000 square feet of leased office space and related leased parking space at One Kansas City Place.

2001 Additional staff relocated to 21,000 sq. feet of leased office space and related leased parking space at One Kansas City Place.

Jan, 2002 Bank announces it is working on a new headquarters project.

Dec, 2002 Bank receives approval from Board of Governors to continue planning on project.

May 2003 Bank selects Pei Cobb Freed & Partners as facility designers. Ellerbe Becket will also work on the project.

June 2003 The Board of Governors approves the purchase of a 15-acre building site at 28th and Main St. in downtown Kansas City.

Fall 2005 Construction begins

June 2008 Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City moves to new downtown headquarters at 28th and Main St.
